Taking it's name from "Dutch" Allen this post office was located within a store owned by Mr. Allen. It served an entire community whose people would gather at the store at mail time to visit and pick up their mail or send it out. Mr. Allen was born in 1879. I do not know exactly when the post office was begun...whenever Rural Delivery was started. I do know that the 1st Rural Delivery in the nation was selected to be in Charles Town, WV in 1896. Delivery at Dutch continued until sometime in the 40's when his grandson had to go to the service. At that time it became "Dutch" Route, Burnsville, WV.until a watershed dam was built at Burnsville and most of the land was then under water. This was on or slightly before 1970. Since peoples' homes were sold to the government and they were forced to move elsewhere, the community as it had been for years ceased to exist. Entry to the community was now only from the Napier end of Long Run and cut off by a government gate only a scant two miles from its beginnings. Today the mail is now truly a route and the address is Napier, WV. Dutch is now a ghost town and has ceased to exist.
