Bellinger Hill Elementary School, Alabama

Someone mentioned Ms. Lock who was one of my teachers; I believe the second grade. Our class made a walking field trip to her home to see her flowers. Strange but an English class at U of A did the very same thing. That was a very long time ago. Ms Birdie Belser ( spell Name ?) unfortunately she and I had a more than close working relationship. She, for some reason seemed to want to share advise with me. Carl Hopson

Living just a few blocks away on Finley Ave I entered Bellinger Hill as a first grader in Sept 1948. I was there through the third grade when we moved to Oak Park. My teachers were Ms Allen, Lock and Carmichal. Ms Lock also went to the same church as my family, Dexter Ave Methodist in downtown Montgomery. I remember our principal but not her name, seems like her first name was Bertie.

Even as long ago as 1948 the school building seemed old to me. I remember playing a lot of kickball during recess and also remember a fire station located next to the school. I later went to Forest Ave school when we moved to 4th Street in Oak Park.
