I would like to have information regarding my father and his brother and sister who spent a brief period of time in this orphanage in 1938. Their parents died in an accident and they were ultimately sent to VA to live with maternal relatives, but their time in CA presents many unknowns. Please connect me to someone who could help me research their history, if possible. Thank you.

Is there a way to find out who the staff was in the 1930's and 40's? A dna match on ancestry has led me to the orphanage but I am lacking info

Yes, my sister and I lived at Saint Patrick's Receiving Home/Children's Home/ Orphanage on Franklin Blvd., in Sacramento, CA from June 1962 to January 1966. I was six years old in June of 62, and had to wait there alone without my sister until she turned six for her to come, but we both left in Jan. of 66. They even held me back in first grade so we could be together. So, we lived and went to school there for grades 1 through half the year of 4th grade. Mrs. Roch was 4th grade teacher. Sister Mary Pauline was first grade teacher. My mom had had a nervous breakdown is why we were there. I have some bad memories of St. Pat's because I didn't want to be away from our Mother and I was very scared which I guess made me very definsive and angry now as I look back on it. Anyway, my name is Valerie De La Cruz and my sisters name is Linda Sanchez. I remember some girls as Linda and I were in the, "Little Girls" section for I guess ages 6 to 10? Never made to the, "Big Girls" because we left. My Mom got better and came and got us. On weekends I can remember our beautiful Mother coming to take us home. She didn't drive and had to take the bus which let her off on Fruitridge and Franklin so she had to walk a ways to St. Pat's to pick us up then we'd walk back to the bus stop to take the bus home to Oak Park. Boy did we hate having to go back and I know it broke her heart taking us back because I'd make the biggest crying and screming scenes that the Sisters would have to tear me from my Mothers waist. She would be crying, and my little sister Linda was crying too as she stood there. When our Dad would come and get us on the weekends, in his car, when he took us back the same thing would happen. So our brother took us and just dropped us off at the frount door w/out any sences, LOL! Anyway, looking back I see that everyone did the best they could and I hold nothing against anybody. Everything went according to God's Plan and as we know, "All things work together for good to those who love God." I just missed my Mom and Dad as any kid would who had such loving parents as we did. I do remember a Mrs. Masure, don't have her name spelling right, but she was a social worker I think who worked there? I remember her having a convertable mustang that we rode in with her. Maybe she was giving us a ride home for the weekend? She always wore her hair in a french twist. Funny some of the things you remember. I remember a lot of things from St. Pat's, too much to write here.
