The mountain lions in the Goodspring mountains liked beef better than venison.

Charley & Rachael Roberts on Jimmy and Rowdy 1934 Roberts Ranch was last Homestead given in state of Nevada. Application filed for quarter section in 1933 and all requirements certified as satisfied in 1938. The ranch was a working cattle ranch and also a dude ranch for retreats and hunting. Grazing permits ran up to the base of Mt Charleston and down Lovell Canyon into Pahrump Valley. There were Mule Deer, Mt. Sheep, and Mt. Lion to hunt.

I worked there during WWII as a boypower resource for Uncle Charley and Aunt Rachael Roberts, and as a family visitor from 1933 forward. This ranch was the last 160 acre homestead granted in Nevada. They retired to Overton, NV in 1953 where they are now buried in the pioneer's section of the local cemetery. They were grand frontier pioneering people. The ranch has since been owned by Krupt, Howard Huges, and now The Torino Foundation.

Uncle Charlie and Aunt Rachel Roberts homesteaded the 160-ac ranch in 1933 and ran it as a cattle ranch for 14 years. I visited there with family from 1933 forward and worked there during the summer years of WWII while I was too young for military. You can read the whole story about what it was like in the booklet available via local bookstores or Amazon.com book section. The Roberts appear to be have petitioned for the last homestead granted in the State of Nevada. This is a true story about a pioneering adventure in Nevada, and now called the Torino Ranch. by George
