As a 13 year old boy I spent the summer of 1952 living on the Gallegos ranch with my family while my stepfather worked construction on hwy 39 near Mosquera. A family by the name of Baca managed the ranch then and there were several children. Edwin, Nestor, and a girl named Shirley.Ed, Nestor and me spent a lot of time on horseback. One of our favorite pastimes was to ride up to the foot of the red bluffs behind the ranch, dismount and walk the dry creek beds looking for arrowheads. They were plentiful (so were rattlesnakes) and I found some beauties. I sold them at the local store for a dime apiece. We moved to Tucumcari right before school started and I never returned.
