we are going back a few years! I have the papers out so I know I have the dates correct. I was transferred from Adak to Sababa Seca, P.R. May 1957 as CT3. MOSTLY WHAT I REMEMBER ABOUT IT WAS THE HFDF BUILDING WITH ALL THE COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT. USING THE PROPELLER ON THE OSCILOSCOPE TO GET A BEARING. I REMEMBER THE TRAP DOOR TO THE "BASEMENT" OF THE "SHACK" WHERE CRABS WERE ALL OVER THE PLACE. WE HAD TO DRIVE TO GET TO THE SHACK AND IN THE EVENING YOU COULD HEAR THE CRUNCHING OF SMALL CRABS ON THE ROAD. I WAS ASSISTANT LIFE GUARD AT THE POOL. I HAD TAKEN A MECHANICAL DRAWILNG COURSE WHILE THERE AND MY MOTHER SENT ME A DRAFTING TABLE AND ALL THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT TO DRAW. THE ENLISTED MENS CLUB WAS PRETTY BIG. SHUFFLE BOARD WAS A FAVORITE. GOING INTO TOWN FROM THE BARRACKS BY PUBLICO. NOT USRE ABOUT THE SPELLING BUT IT WAS KIND OF A TAXI. HAD TO MAKE A STOP LPART WAY IN AT A SMALL COFFEE SHOP. THE COVVER WAS STRONG AND THE SPOOL STOOD UP STRAIGHT! THE FORT WEAS A SIGHT TO SEE. SCOOBA DIVING IN A COVE ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE ISLAND WAS GRAAT FUN. WATER WAS SO CLEAR YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD WALK NEXT TO THJE BOAT. ANCHOR GOT HUNG UP IN THE ROCKS AND NO ONE COULD DIVE THAT FAR TO CLEAR IT. LOTS OF NICE SHOPS IN THE DOWN BY THE FORT. I BELIEVE THERE WAS A BUS THAT COULD TAKE YOU INTO TOWN ALSO. PRETTY HAZY GOING BACK THAT FAR!! I REMEMBER AN INVITATION WENT OUT TO SOME GIRLS FROM TOWN FOR A PARTY IN THE CLUB ONE TIME. LOTS OF DANCING. DON'T REMEMBER IF THE GIRLS GOT HOME THAT NIGHT OR NOT!! I'M SORY TO SAY I DO NOT REMEMBER ANY OF THE OTHER MEN/BOYS THERE AT THE TIME. I DIDN'T HAVE A CAMERA OR MOVIE CAMERA. WISH I HAD. ONE GUY WHO WAS THE SENIOR LIFE GUARD AND IN CHARGE OF THE POOL I ONLY REMEMBER AS BEING BIG AND HIS NAME REMINDS ME OF A NASCAR DRIVER. HE WAS CT1 I BELIEVE. OTHER THAN BOOT, SCHOOL IN IMPERIAL BEACH THEN ADAK I WAS ONLY 20 IN MAY OF 1957. ON MY OWN JUST OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AND HAVING WHAT I THOUGHT AT THE TIME WAS A GOOD TIME. WISH I HAD BEEN OLDER THEN. WENT FROM NAU TO NSS NEXT. TWO PICTURES OF ME THEN AND NOW, A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO ANYHOW.
